Description
The Society Hill playhouse has serve as the driving force of theater entertainment since it's creation in 1959. Specifically the Society Hill playhouse is located at 507 South 8th Street in the historic David Garrick Hall. Guests to the playhouse over the last forty or so years have been treated to many great performances on it's main stage area and on the newly created Second Space Theater, which is also know as the Cabaret Theater, opened in 1986.
The Society Hill Playhouse is part of the Theater Alliance of Philadelphia, and as such it's mission is to present theatre as a social and communicative art in the Philadelphia area. The Society Hill Playhouse is Philadelphia's original public theatre and after it's long history, it continues to function as the theatre that brings "the theatre experience" to the Philadelphia area.
Many parking lot's and garages are located within walking distance of the playhouse, however, due to the age of the facility the Society Hill Playhouse does not offer services or facillities that can accommodate those with handicaps or disabilites.
