Description
The Walnut Street Theater is America's Oldest theater. Located at 825 Walnut Street, the Walnut Street Theater is thought by many to be a standing monument to American Theater. Many great stars, actors and actresses have appeared on stage at the Walnut Street Theater; such as Jack Lemmon, George C. Scott, Katharine Hepburn, Houdini, Edward G. Robinson and many more.
The Walnute Street Theater's vision and focus allows it to offer some of the best and most unique productions found in any theater world wide. The Theater's goal is to preserve the historic legacy of the landmark, entertain the people of the region and educate. Further the Theater's management has take the time and capital investment neccessary to modernize and upkeep this famous facility. In 2001 the 160 Year old Mainstage Grid was restored. Further, all of the old and worn wooden beams were replaced and all stage machinery was upgraded. All of these upgrades have made the Walnut Street Theater able to show more elaborately produced events and shows.
The facility offers two stages. The first is the Mainstage area which offers Orchestra, Lower Mezzanine and Upper Mezzanine Seating. Orchestra seating is on the first level of the theatre. No seat is further than 45 feet from the stage. The lower mezzanine seating is on the second level of the theater where no seat is further than 40 feet from the stage and the upper mezzanine seating is also found on the second level located behind the lower mezzaine seating. No seat is further than 60 feet from the stage in the upper mezzanine seating area. The theater is handicapped accessible, and air conditioned.
